What are the currently overused audition songs for females these days?

I’ve doing consistent voice-over work these days, but I want to get back into musical theater. Any suggestions for songs, or at least any suggestions about avoiding certain songs. Right now I’m really loving The Last Five Years (I know, it has been around now for 4 years or so) but I’m sure a lot of other people are using songs from that particular show over and over again. Anyone out there that can help me, especially NYC based talent? Thanks!

Hmmm… there are a lot of overused songs. I would stay away from any Wicked songs as it is a really popular musical at the moment.

There is a great musical called Children of Eden. There is a song in there called Stranger to the Rain. It’s a beautiful song, and really good for musical theater auditions because it allows you to portray a wide range of emotions, at the same time showing off your vocal range. I don’t think that it’s used in many auditions, mainly because the show is that well known. But, the composer is the same guy as Wicked, so you know it’s good.

Here’s a pretty extensive list of overdone songs, plus a link to other audition songs:
