What Broadway songs should I sing for an audition?

I am a 13 year old girl and I need to sing 16 bars of 2 different songs for a summer camp audition. One needs to be a ballad and one a more up tempo song. I’m thinking about singing “A lot of living to do” from Bye Bye Birdie for my second song. Is that a good choice? And what should I do for my other song? My voice isn’t a huge belty voice but I can sing pretty well. I don’t know what show I’m auditioning for, it’s just a general audition. I’d rather do a song from a more modern show than and older one, but any suggestions are good. Please help!

It’s not very modern but for the ballad you could do Far From The Home I Love from Fiddler. How modern do you want the show? Perhaps Someone Like You from Jekyll & Hyde for one of them?

Well, from my experience Judges like when you sing an old classy song . That really goes with your voice tone. Like Carmen . If you have a mid deep voice, that’s the best choice. I hope that this helps. Or maybe you can sing Diamonds are a girls best friend. Always works for me.

I’ve done “Loverly” from “My Fair Lady”, it’s not written for a belt voice, so that might work. “I’ve Never Been In Love Before” from “Guys and Dolls” might work for a ballad. It’s not very long so it would be easy to cut down to 16 bars. Good luck!

You should sing something that you know well and like to sing. Since you are young and don’t have a belt voice, for a ballad you could sing Castle on a Cloud from Les Miserables and for an uptempo you could sing more of some kind of pop song that you know and like. Since it is 16 bars pick the chorus of the song or the most interesting part of the song. Don’t sing the stuff that leads up to the good part.

    I like Tomorrow from Annie.

The key is to sing something a 13 year old girl would sing. No one wants to see you tackle opera or rock. There are plenty of good songs for you. “Far From the Home I Love” is an excellent example. “Tomorrow” may seem too immature. Here are a few suggestions:
    “My Own Little Corner” -Cinderella
“One Boy” (also from Bye Bye Birdie)
    “Much More” -The Fantastiks
