It’s for my STAT Class:

You have purchased a CD with 10 tracks, only 3 of which have songs that you like. Your CD player will randomly select and play each of the songs once. (A song will not be replayed before all songs have been played once.)

What is the probablity that the first two songs played are songs that you like?

What is the probablity that the first two songs played are songs that you don’t like?

    1) 3/10 x 2/9 = 6/90=1/15

    2) 7/10 x 6/9 = 42/90 = 7/15

That’s more of an educated guess, so don’t stake your life on it.

The probability that the first song is a song that you like is 3/10.
Given that, the probability that the second song is a song you like is 2/9.
The probability of both songs being songs you like would be 3/10 x 2/9, which is 6/90 or 1/15.

The probability that the first song is a song you don’t like is 7/10.
Given that, the probability that the second song is a song you don’t like is 6/9 or 2/3.
The probability of both songs being song you don’t like would be 7/10 x 2/3, which is 14/30 or 7/15.
